So, a wonderful, annual tradition amongst friends is the 'Best of 2009' cd exchange party. We choose and create what we felt were the best songs/albums of 2009, make cd's (and cover art!) and exchange among friends. always a great time, where we just chill out, drink and enjoy music and explain our awesome choices.
Sooo... with no further ado, here's my list!
1. Demon Host - Timber Timbre
2. The Rake's Song - The Decemberists
3. My Girls - Animal Collective
4. Heads Up - Karen O and the Kids
5. Never Forget You - Noisettes
6. 1901 - Phoenix
7. Black Ice - Ohbijou
8. Little Secrets - Passion Pit
9. Son, You're Daddy Was Bad - United Steelworkers of Montreal
10. Oh My God - The Wooden Sky
11. Skeletons - Yeah Yeah Yeahs
12. Laura Palmer's Prom - You Say Party! We say Die!
13. Crystalised - The XX

15. Two Weeks - Grizzly Bear
16. (snare off) first edit. - The Love Machine
17. You're Not Coming Home Tonight - First Aid Kit
18. Yer My Byatch - The Acorn
Now, I know that not all of these are 2009. at least one song is 2008, and another hasn't even been released to public ears yet. but this is MY 2009. so there.
Enjoy, compare, contrast, and keep enjoying music!

'delayed' is the best thing you can call it, I guess.
So, yea.
Remember that whole thing where I was supposed to move to Toronto in the new year? Where I was going to move to supposedly bigger and better things, continue on in my supposed career and do an overall theme of moving forward and onward?
Yea...
I've had some stuff come up. It's crappy stuff. Crappy, in that, because of this stuff, I have to stay in Ottawa for a bit longer. I lucked out in that I have my job still, my apartment still, and , obviously all of my friends here to have and love and enjoy general merriment with. But Toronto would've still been nice.
As a friend told me, things have just been 'delayed': Toronto WILL happen, I just need to take care of a few things before I can do it.
I don't want any of you to worry about why I'm sticking around. It's stuff. It sucks, but it's just stuff. Stuff will pass. I'm not dead, I'm not dying, it's just stuff. It's stuff that's big enough to keep me here, because I'm not one to change my mind easily or to back out of something or quit without good cause, but it's only temporary.
So that's the story. That's what's going on.
Ottawa, you're stuck with me just a little bit longer.

let me tell you a joke...
So, the other night I was walking home in the drizzly december weather and a homeless man walked up to me.
Now before he asked me for anything, he showed me this trick with a jumbo bread clip, where you throw it like a boomerang. He then did ask for change, but requested that he perform a few jokes first.
One of them was:
what did the ocean say to the shore?
Nothing, it just waved.
I did have a quarter, and was pretty happy to give it to him, but before I could give it to him, he wanted me to guess the number I was thinking between 1 and 100.
He guessed 74. Nope, higher.
He guessed 98. Nope, lower.
Then he guessed 83. I gave him the quarter.
It was actually 86, but I had to tell him he was right. He had so much spirit, and when I high-fived him to 'congratulate' him, his face lit up like a little kid.
That's pretty much the whole story. He and I had this random interaction alone in the soggy streets, but it was kinda neat to have this exchange with him. I didn't feel harassed, I didn't feel guilty or annoyed, and he was truly happy to have this contact.
I dunno. It was just a night moment, thought I'd share.

stressballs and new adventures...
I put my notice in at my apartment this week.
Then I cooked. And baked.
2 kinds of banana bread.
Sherry wild rice soup.
And pork ribs.
...When I'm stressed I cook.
This means in 2 months I will be officially homeless in Ottawa. I will be packing my bags (and a really big truck) to Toronto, and starting fresh. New friends, new job, new apartment, new life. Thankfully I already have some friends there and a nice mini community so the big(ger) city won't eat me alive.
Whoa. Big city. Brave new world.
I'm really going to miss this aparmtent. I've lived here for almost 4 years. Many memories, parties, fights, dinner parties, accidents and injuries at this place. And it's just so pretty!!

And of course the people. I have so many friends here, it's going to be hard to leave them all and start all over again. And not being in school is going to be hard to make friends outside of work. IF I even get a job right away.
sigh... growing up sucks sometimes.
onwards and upwards, I suppose.

tomorrow is a blood filled day...
So tomorrow I go to a cottage.
Tomorrow I help out a band kill innocent girls at a cottage.
Tomorrow will be fun.
Oh the life I lead...
I love my degree.

little bad, little good
Thanksgiving has passed.
My friends and I had a potluck of epic proportions. And I mean EPIC!!
Turkey, stuffing, potatoes (2 kinds) squash, sweet potato pie, brie and apple thing, macaroni ranch deliciousness, italian pasta thingy (made by and authentic italian guy!) sweet carrots, roasted peppers stuffed with rice, ceasar salad, pumpkin pie, cheesecake and squares, and SO MUCH MORE!
I don't have to cook for a week, thank you leftovers!
that was good.
I lost my iphone and one of the family cats was killed by a hit and run.
that was bad.
I also just shrunk my new and faourite sweater. I'm hoping that completes the trilogy of suck. that along with little things that have been going on, I'm about to snap. But, luckily, friends, food, wii, dancing and wayyyy too much PBR helped.
Thanks everyone that came. It was amazing and you are all wonderful.
-janeovision.
p.s. yea, I was supposed to talk about costa rica. It was amazing. there.
